Law enforcement officers deployed a Taser on two canines in north Belfast subsequent to a woman sustaining a bite injury to her lower leg. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reported receiving notification of “aggressive” dogs on Upper Canning Street prior to 16:50 BST on Monday. Upon the arrival of officers, the dogs were observed fighting, and a woman had already been bitten. Authorities stated that the dogs were “posing a danger to the public,” leading them to employ a Conducted Energy Device (CED) on the animals “to prevent further attacks.” A spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed that the Police Ombudsman has been notified, and investigations are ongoing in support of Belfast City Council’s Dog Warden. Belfast City Council issued a statement, declaring: “Our Dog Wardens attended an incident in north Belfast on Monday 28 October. “We are continuing to investigate this incident, and cannot comment further while our investigation is ongoing.” Conducted Energy Devices operate by discharging two small, dart-like electrodes, subsequently delivering a high-voltage electrical shock to temporarily incapacitate the individual or animal targeted. This mechanism enables officers to manage hazardous situations from a safe distance.
