A man has been sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting a 71-year-old market trader. The assault occurred after a dispute concerning a phone charger. The incident took place in Nottingham, where the victim was operating his stall at Hyson Green market. Tyrone Rowe approached him, requesting to test a charger at a nearby bookmaker. According to Nottinghamshire Police, this interaction escalated into an argument, during which Rowe became “agitated and aggressive” and then punched the trader in the face. Tyrone Rowe, 41, then left the area but returned shortly thereafter to punch the trader once more, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete. Following the assault on June 19, the victim was transported to a hospital, where medical examinations revealed fractures on both sides of his face, including shattered cheekbones and eye sockets. Rowe, residing at Southey Street, Radford, was apprehended on the same day. He informed officers that his actions were in self-defence, prompted by the preceding argument. Nevertheless, the police force stated that the evidence “clearly showed” Rowe to be the aggressor. He was subsequently charged and later admitted guilt to the charge of grievous bodily harm without intent. His sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, where he received a prison term and an additional two-year extended licence period. Police reported that the victim’s health has declined since the assault, rendering him unable to continue working at his stall. Shreeia Patel, representing Nottinghamshire Police, commented: “This was a despicable unprovoked attack on a market trader which left him with serious facial injuries.” She added: “I’m glad Rowe has now been held to account for his disgusting actions.”
