Rail service provider c2c has denounced an act of vandalism, which it labeled “completely unacceptable,” following an incident where multiple train carriages were defaced with graffiti. These spray-painted carriages were observed at Laindon station, situated close to Basildon, on Monday morning. According to passenger Roy Donovan, the appearance of the carriages was akin to “a NY [New York] subway”. A spokesperson representing c2c stated that the company would “ensure those responsible are held to account for their actions”. The spokesperson further remarked, “It is completely unacceptable for anybody to vandalise trains.” They also mentioned, “We are working with our British Transport Police [BTP] colleagues and are reviewing CCTV footage to investigate this incident.” A spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that an investigation into criminal damage has been initiated and that inquiries are currently in progress. The BTP spokesperson stated, “We received reports at around 05:00 GMT today (9 December) of criminal damage to several train carriages.” They added, “Inquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, quoting reference 52 of 9 December.”
