Luke Edwards of The Telegraph expressed his view that Ipswich and Leicester “have a real fighting chance of staying up this season,” suggesting their survival would instill “fear” within the Premier League due to the potential relegation of two more established clubs. In contrast to last season, when all three promoted teams were relegated, Ipswich and Leicester currently remain outside the relegation zone as league football recommences on Saturday. Speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Football Daily podcast, Edwards stated, “Ipswich are just a great story.” He elaborated, “We are all football romantics and their story is one.” He further commented that “The football they play under Kieran McKenna and their unbelievable journey make them a shining beacon to so many football clubs.” Edwards drew parallels to historical achievements, noting, “Wimbledon did it in the 1980s, Portsmouth have done it and it is a magical carpet ride where anything seems possible.” He added that “If they can stay up, then it sends a message to the rest of the English football pyramid that you can dream and have aspirations.” Edwards also reflected on the club’s recent past, observing, “Ipswich fans were really miserable in League One and almost at their darkest hour, but now they are in the Premier League and competing.” Should Ipswich and Leicester both manage to avoid relegation, it would indeed generate apprehension in the Premier League, as it would mean the demotion of two purportedly established teams.
