The current year has presented a mix of successes and challenges, marked by the establishment of both positive and negative club records. From January through May, the club experienced a memorable period. Under manager Russell Martin, a previously struggling, relegated squad was transformed into Championship contenders, ultimately securing promotion following an appearance at Wembley. During this time, the club achieved a new record of a 25-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, surpassing a record that had stood for 103 years. However, the subsequent period has presented a significant contrast, proving to be largely unfavorable. This latter part of the season has seen only one victory, numerous errors, two consecutive home matches where five goals were conceded, and the appointment of the third manager of the current campaign. While a challenging season was anticipated, the extent of these difficulties was unexpected. The club is currently striving to surpass Derby County’s 11-point total from the 2007-08 season. The standout moment of the year is unequivocally the trip to Wembley. Opportunities for Saints fans to visit the iconic venue are infrequent. While the club experienced the disappointment of the 2017 League Cup final and the memorable League Trophy victory against Carlisle United in 2010, the 2024 play-off final is considered the most significant. Being part of the 35,000 travelling Saints supporters and observing the trophy presentation constituted a particularly special occasion. This achievement is seen as overshadowing the year’s negative aspects. One consistent observation is that the club’s journey is never uneventful. There is anticipation for a positive change in fortunes in 2025 under the management of Ivan Juric.
