Two non-league football teams located in Hertfordshire have requested assistance following damage sustained at their venues due to a recent storm. Sawbridgeworth Town FC reported that its turnstiles were demolished, and both the spectator stands and a structural wall incurred significant damage. In a fundraising appeal, the club stated, “We are reaching out with heavy hearts,” requesting public support for “urgent repairs.” Concurrently, Kings Langley FC indicated that its perimeter fencing sustained damage valued at a minimum of £10,000. A Kings Langley spokesperson informed the BBC, stating, “We’ve had other damage as well, the majority of which primarily affects the two youth pitches we have at the club.” The spokesperson added, “In order to make it safe for our final youth games of the season, we are looking for some volunteers to help clear up on Tuesday.” Kings Langley FC competes in Division One Central of the Southern Football League, which is part of the National League system. Storm Darragh generated wind speeds reaching up to 90mph (145km/h) in certain areas of the UK during the weekend. Sawbridgeworth Town described the supporting wall as “a key structure that ensures safety and stability,” and noted that the seating areas were “heavily damaged, leaving fans without proper facilities.” The club further stated that the turnstiles had been “rendered unusable.” A spokesperson for Sawbridgeworth Town remarked, “For over 100 years, this club has been a cornerstone of our community, providing a place for players, fans, and families to come together.” The spokesperson concluded, “Now, we’re calling on our football family and friends to help us rebuild and restore what we’ve lost.” Sawbridgeworth Town FC competes in the Premier Division of the Essex Senior Football League.
