An individual has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in London’s West End where four pedestrians sustained injuries. Authorities responded to calls reporting a vehicle being driven against traffic on Shaftesbury Avenue, located in Covent Garden, at 00:45 GMT. According to the Metropolitan Police, one of the pedestrians was in a life-threatening state. The driver, identified as a 31-year-old man, was apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder. Law enforcement officials are considering this an isolated event, with no connection to terrorism. A spokesperson for the Met Police stated that officers were dispatched following “reports of a road traffic collision and a car driving on the wrong side of the road”. Multiple police cordons are still active in the vicinity of Shaftesbury Avenue. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy commented: “Detectives are quickly progressing inquiries as part of this investigation. “It’s believed that the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub prior to getting in his car and mounting the pavement.”
