St Lawrence School in Horncastle officially inaugurated a new building on October 29, providing enhanced facilities for its students and staff. The expansion features 17 classrooms, with three specifically designed for pupils with profound learning disabilities, alongside a new hall and upgraded outdoor areas. Head teacher Tonya Stokes commented that the modifications have “made a dramatic difference in terms of purposeful spaces for teaching and learning”. The newly added hall and studio are set to enable the school to provide rebound therapy and physical education. Additionally, dedicated areas for soft play, sensory play, and physiotherapy will be available. The enhanced outdoor play spaces now encompass a sensory garden, a horticulture area, both formal and informal sport pitches, and outdoor exercise equipment. Furthermore, the school site has undergone a redesign to offer improved drop-off and pick-up facilities, along with increased parking capacity. Councillor Patricia Bradwell stated that the council has allocated approximately £100m towards the enhancement and expansion of special schools throughout the county. She further remarked, “Horncastle St Lawrence is the latest in a long list of success stories we’ve had to celebrate as a result of the project, and I’m sure the much-improved facilities will make a life-changing difference to pupils.”
