Christian Wilson Prepares for First Christmas with Unique Digitized Voice

An individual who communicates through text-to-speech software is anticipating his inaugural Christmas with a personalized voice. Christian Wilson, 22, a resident of Bromsgrove, gained public attention earlier this year due to his quest for a new voice to substitute his “robotic” one. Subsequent to an appeal, two individuals were selected to have their voices merged and digitized, providing Mr. Wilson with a voice featuring an authentic accent. “I’ve been able to do lots of things that I didn’t feel confident doing before I had my new voice,” said Mr Wilson. “It has given me a new perspective on my life, which I never had before.” Mr. Wilson lives with verbal dyspraxia, a condition characterized by challenges in positioning muscles accurately for speech production. Stephen Robotham of Warwickshire and Martin Brennan of Birmingham volunteered, after which specialists integrated recordings of their speech to craft a distinct voice for Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson expressed his anticipation for celebrating the festive period alongside his family. He remarked, “I’m excited for Christmas like no other this year, because I have my new voice.” He continued, “My family love my new voice, they want to hear it more. They’ve definitely noticed a more confident side to me.” Following his graduation from the University of Worcester this summer, Mr. Wilson has outlined significant objectives for 2025, such as obtaining a driver’s license and securing employment. He also stated, “Also, I hope to share my research ideas as I look to help others to ensure a more inclusive environment for all.” Having realized his lifelong ambition of possessing his own voice, Mr. Wilson conveyed a Christmas message to anyone else pursuing a significant dream. “Don’t stop believing,” he advised.
