For the twelfth consecutive year, an NHS team specializing in hip fracture treatment has received recognition as one of the top performers in its field throughout England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The hip fracture team at Banbury’s Horton General Hospital fulfilled all best practice criteria for approximately 85% of its patients. This figure significantly surpasses the national average of 48% observed across all hospitals assessed. The annual National Hip Fracture Audit analyzed the performance of 174 hospitals across these three nations during 2023. Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust, the entity responsible for the Horton, expressed that it was “delighted with the news.” Felicity Taylor-Drewe, OUH’s chief operating officer, stated: “It is wonderful to see over a decade of consistently excellent results from our teams.” She further commented that their patients “truly benefit from such expert and rapid surgery.” She concluded, “These results are testament to the commitment, care, and compassion shown by the entire team.” The report’s findings indicated that the Horton’s team performed well above the national average for all evaluated criteria, positioning it among the top five across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The report’s measurements encompassed factors such as the duration patients wait for assessments, surgery, and physiotherapy. Sam Anand, the lead orthopaedic surgeon at the Horton, remarked: “We always look forward to this annual review of our hip fracture at the Horton because the results consistently show the commitment and expertise of our team.” He noted, “Hip fractures are very common, and they’re often suffered by elderly or frail people who need quick care.” He conveyed that the team was “so pleased” to be able to assist patients in “such an efficient and effective way, year after year.”
