Quarterback Daniel Jones has become a member of the Minnesota Vikings, following his release from the New York Giants five days prior. His departure from the Giants occurred after he lost his position as their starting quarterback. The 27-year-old American player has finalized a contract worth $375,000 (£295,000) for the current season’s duration and is scheduled to meet his new Vikings team-mates this Friday. His agreement with the Giants was “mutually terminated” earlier in the week, occurring less than two years subsequent to his signing of a $160m (£126m) extension with the NFL franchise. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell commented on Jones, who was a first-round draft pick in 2019, stating: “I’ve always been a fan.” O’Connell added, “I think there’s so much out in front of him that’s going to be really good things that we get to personally be a part of, and I can’t wait to work with him.” Jones’s arrival at the Vikings comes as the franchise has secured victories in nine of its 11 games played this season to date. He is expected to contend with Nick Mullens and Brett Rypien for a position as a back-up to the team’s primary starter, Sam Darnold.
