An ex-police officer has been incarcerated after indecent images of a young girl were discovered on his mobile phone during an anti-corruption investigation. Lancashire Constabulary initiated an investigation into Mohammed Joel Choudhury, an officer formerly stationed in Preston, in May 2023. This inquiry led to the discovery of images of a 16-year-old on his device, as well as photographs of a vulnerable woman who had previously been a victim of criminal activity. Choudhury, aged 44, residing at Highbury Road East, St Annes, pleaded guilty to charges of making indecent images of a child and misconduct in a public office at Manchester Crown Court. He subsequently received a 16-month prison sentence. Detective Chief Inspector Pete Reil, from the force’s anti-corruption unit, characterized Choudhury’s conduct as “completely reprehensible.” He further stated, “It was not compatible with anyone who has the privilege of wearing a police uniform.” Additionally, the former officer was placed under a seven-year sexual harm prevention order. He tendered his resignation from the force earlier this year while still under investigation and was subsequently found guilty during an accelerated internal misconduct hearing held in June. This conviction results in Choudhury being permanently prohibited from employment in law enforcement.
