A seven-year-old has successfully finished a 248-mile (400km) cycling challenge to benefit a hospital charity. Oliver, who resides in Bracebridge Heath, close to Lincoln, initially aimed to cover the distance within 30 days and collect £400 for the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity. However, he surpassed this goal significantly, accumulating a total of £1,000. The culmination of his final ride took place at his football club in Waddington, where his teammates offered encouragement as he reached the finish line. Ben Petts, the charity manager, referred to Oliver as “an absolute star”. Reflecting on the challenge, Oliver stated: “I wanted to do this because I enjoy bike riding and have done it since I was three-years-old.” He continued, “I wanted to raise money for Lincoln hospital because both me and my sister Halle were born there. I think the doctors, nurses and carers are amazing there.” Oliver also expressed, “I am very proud of myself because I wanted to raise £300 to start with then I thought about changing my target to £400, so I was so happy when my mum and dad told me I had got to £1,000.” As part of the endeavor, Oliver cycled various routes in the vicinity of Lincoln and Sleaford. His parents, Alannah and Mark, accompanied him, and his one-year-old sister also participated for a brief segment. Oliver’s mother commented that it represented a significant undertaking for a child of his age. She further remarked, “We are so proud of him.” The United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity provides assistance to staff in delivering care to patients, their families, and carers across the county’s hospitals. Funds generated by the charity are allocated to supplementary items, such as a sensory room at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital and teddy bears for neonatal units. Commending Oliver for his dedication, Mr. Petts noted that he was among the youngest individuals to raise funds for the organization. He concluded by saying, “Congratulations on beating your target Oliver, and we are so grateful for the money for our charity.”
