Tributes have been extended following the death of a Humberside Police officer, who was fatally injured in a road collision while returning home after her shift. Detective Constable Karen Smith succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the incident, which involved her motorcycle and a car. The collision occurred on Wednesday on the A1033, specifically at its intersection with Thorn Road, situated near the village of Thorngumbald. Detective Constable Smith had dedicated 16 years of service to the community. Lee Sims, chairman of the Humberside Police Federation, characterized her passing as “devastating” and acknowledged her as a “truly outstanding detective.” Mr. Sims further stated: “Karen was a well-liked and popular colleague and was recognised by all who knew and worked with her as being tremendously hard working and dedicated. “She showed an incredible level of compassion for victims of crime, and tirelessly pursued justice for them.” The police federation has confirmed it is providing assistance to her family, friends, and colleagues during this time.
