Bus services in Herefordshire are set to benefit from a £3 million investment aimed at bolstering public transport routes throughout the county. The Department for Transport announced on Monday that Herefordshire Council would receive a grant totaling £3.257 million, designated to assist in the expansion of existing local bus routes. While the council itself does not operate any bus services, the eight routes supported by this grant are run by Sargeants, Yeomans, DRM, and Newport Transport Ltd. Councillor Philip Price highlighted the critical importance of these local bus services for residents in the area who do not drive, particularly older individuals and young people. He stated: “We very much welcome this additional funding, which will support us to maintain, protect and improve crucial and much-valued services across our county, connecting people and communities.” Anticipated improvements include increased service frequency in some areas, extended operating hours for certain routes, and the reinstatement of previously discontinued routes.
