A 17-year-old, Ryan Sissons of Long Eaton, Derbyshire, who holds a strong interest in policing, recently received an unexpected visit from Nottinghamshire Police PCSO Chris Jones. Sarah Sissons, Ryan’s mother, stated that the surprise “absolutely made his day,” noting that her son “has always loved anything to do with the police.” Ryan, who experiences the effects of a brain injury, has consistently aspired to a career in law enforcement, though his mother expressed that “sadly that probably won’t happen.” PCSO Jones indicated that he learned of Ryan’s enthusiasm for police work after encountering a social media post made by his mother. He stated: “As a community police officer, I knew from reading the post that I had the tools, time, and commitment to engage with Ryan to fulfil his lifetime ambition and I contacted his mum.” Discussions were held regarding Ryan’s keen interest and the optimal method for surprising him at his residence. Two days later, PCSO Jones arrived at the teenager’s home, where Ryan answered the door wearing a police uniform. PCSO Jones further commented, “It was a real pleasure being able to surprise Ryan, who was over the moon.” “He was able to sit in the front of the car, followed by a tour which included getting locked in the rear cage, as authorised and witnessed by his parents.” Ryan had previously worn a police officer costume for his Halloween trick-or-treating activities. His mother remarked, “This surprise visit just absolutely made his day – he hasn’t shut up about it since,” adding a lighthearted tone. She also stated, “It was a really nice thing for Chris to do.” Follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
