The Channel Island of Sark has reportedly received “a number of inquiries” from individuals interested in living and working as farmers on the island, according to its Seigneur. Christopher Beaumont, who also holds a trustee position with the Sark Dairy Trust, stated: “We have had a number of enquiries and we’re engaging with them right now.” His comments follow the current farmers on the island submitting their notice to return to the UK. Mr. Beaumont described the dairy as “a turn-key business opportunity for the right person” and expressed his hope for new tenants to be in place by the summer. He also mentioned that the new tenants would need to produce 100 litres (176 pints) of milk daily to achieve a good profit margin. This production could also include the equivalent in cream, butter, cheese, ice creams, and yoghurts, he added. Current tenants Jason Salisbury and his wife Katharine moved from their Suffolk farm to take over the dairy in October 2019. The couple indicated it was time for them to move back to their family and pass on the farm. Mr. Salisbury said: “It was really the idea of setting up the dairy here on Sark and starting it up from scratch.” He continued: “We feel now that we’ve accomplished that mission.” Post navigation London’s Oldest Fish Market Faces Closure, Traders Express Concern and Hope Financial Pressures Lead to Closure of Cycling Charity’s Derby Hub
