Eastbourne has been designated as the top location in England for stargazing. The town was determined to offer the most favorable views, considering its minimal light and air pollution, along with low cloud cover. Four additional Sussex towns were commended for their clear skies, according to research conducted by bookmakers JeffBet. These towns included Brighton, Hove, Hastings, and Worthing, while Dundee secured the leading position across the UK for viewing the night sky. JeffBet utilized data from lightpollutionmap.info and weather forecaster open-meteo.com to assign scores out of 100 to 100 UK towns. A spokesperson for the company stated that the darker nights of winter represent the optimal time of year for stargazing. The company offered the following advice to stargazers: “Remember to wrap up warm and bring torches to help light your way. “Opt to head outside on a clear, cloudless evening, ideally avoiding a fuller moon, as this will overpower your view of the stars.“The most important thing is to be patient. If you can’t see clearly at first, give your eyes time to settle, and you’ll likely spot whole constellations you couldn’t see moments before.” BBC Sussex can be followed on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
