The chief constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has indicated that the force will await communication from United States authorities concerning an alleged incident that occurred during a recent trip by Armagh GAA to the US. Approximately 100 individuals from the group had traveled to Miami, Florida, in November to commemorate the team’s All-Ireland win. On Sunday, the PSNI announced that investigations were in progress and that no further information was currently available. Armagh GAA has been asked for a statement. Jon Boutcher was questioned about the alleged event at a cross-border policing conference held in County Cavan on Monday. “There’s nothing I can really say about this incident,” he informed Irish broadcaster RTÉ. “That is something that we would be working with other jurisdictions if they approach us. I want to be really careful.” The chief constable further stated: “I think we’ve all got to be really responsible about what we’re saying about this incident at the moment and just make sure that we’re allowed to get on with working with other organisations, and we’re very mindful about what we say in the public domain.” When asked about potential next steps, considering the alleged incident took place in the US, Mr Boutcher responded: “We would wait to be approached by another jurisdiction for any help that we can offer them,” he said. “I’m not going to talk about this particular incident and what has happened with regards to that. Let’s just get on with doing what we do. I know there’s a huge amount of reporting on social media,” Mr Boutcher said. “I’d really ask people to stop speculating about this incident out of respect, actually for anybody who may have made any allegation.” The Armagh GAA squad secured the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship victory in July. This marked Armagh’s first final appearance in 21 years. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites.
