A Surrey-based service dedicated to enhancing the physical and mental well-being of older residents is scheduled to receive a £7,500 financial boost. Strategic Health and Wellbeing Services (SHAWS) plans to allocate these funds towards expanding its strength and balance classes, which cater to residents aged over 65 living with long-term health conditions. Currently held at Camberley Library, the classes are slated for expansion to include locations at Frimley Green and Bagshot Libraries. Surrey Heath Councillor Lisa Finan-Cooke commented: “This is a positive project from an excellent local charity which is already helping some of the most vulnerable members of our community.” The funds were sought by SHAWS through an application to Surrey Heath Borough Council’s community grant scheme, which has recommended its approval. These classes, which also strive to reduce social isolation, are designed to benefit refugees, ethnically diverse groups, women, and the community’s older population.
