The owners of the Crayford greyhound track in Dartford have announced its closure, effective after Christmas. The stadium, which commenced operations in 1986, is no longer considered financially viable, according to its owners, Ladbroke, who cited “dwindling support.” The announcement, posted on the stadium’s official website, confirmed that the current schedule of fixtures would be completed at tracks located in Romford, Hove, and Monmore. Ladbroke stated that the decision to close the venue was “not been taken lightly.” Customers were informed that the track’s owners had been investigating “various avenues” in an attempt to prevent the closure. Ladbroke further explained: “Dwindling support for the venue has led to insufficient trainer interest to fulfil our schedules, fewer competitive race days, and, therefore, lower attendance which has sadly driven our decision to close.” The company affirmed that staff members would be “supported” throughout the closure process. Additionally, every greyhound affected by the closure will receive care “through an enhanced investment and rehoming strategy.”
