Hjalmar Ekdal and Nathan Redmond both took part in a match for Burnley’s under-21 squad on Friday lunchtime, as the duo progresses in their rehabilitation from sustained injuries. Nathan Redmond’s most recent outing for Burnley’s senior team occurred in January against Tottenham. Ekdal, a defender, sustained a torn hamstring and was stretchered off during Sweden’s friendly loss to Denmark in June. He has not yet played for Burnley’s senior squad this season. Redmond’s last first-team appearance was in a 1-0 Premier League defeat away to Tottenham in January. The midfielder has been out of action due to an injury sustained during training, followed by surgery. Burnley’s under-21 squad secured a 3-1 victory over Blackburn’s youngsters, with both Ekdal and Redmond participating for the initial 45 minutes before being substituted.
