Developer David Wilson Homes has submitted an application to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for the construction of 240 residences. These homes would form a “garden neighbourhood” in a Leicestershire village, situated on fields off Barlestone Road, to the north of Newbold Verdon. The plan also allocates land for a new cemetery and for a potential health centre expansion. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), if the proposal receives approval, the development would include two play areas and a community orchard. Planning documentation indicates that 40% of the residences are designated as affordable housing, and 5% will be bungalows. In its application, David Wilson Homes states that the proposed development aims to “create housing choice”. Newbold Verdon is already scheduled for expansion towards its southern area, following a government inspector’s decision earlier this year to grant planning permission for a 239-home development. The LDRS also reported that additional houses have been constructed at the Ferrers Green development, located in the north-west of the village.
