An 83-year-old man from Devon, Michael Langman, has generated over £70,000 for a children’s charity through his yearly Christmas light exhibition. Mr. Langman has adorned the exterior of his residence in Churchstow, close to Kingsbridge, with thousands of lights to collect funds for the Children’s Hospice South West. Having organized this philanthropic display for more than two decades, he has accumulated approximately £73,000 in total. He expressed his ambition, stating, “I would like to reach £100,000, I still need a few years yet. I’ll hopefully get there.” The grandfather, Mr. Langman, explained his decision to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West by saying, “Christmas is all about children.” He further noted, “The hospice nowadays are struggling to get the money in.” He added, “Everybody else is struggling and nobody can afford to donate to them.” “I’d like to get as much as I can this year, more than normal if I can,” he conveyed. Approximately 200 individuals were present for the display’s illumination ceremony, which occurred on 1 December. Mr. Langman affirmed that the exhibition was “all for the kids.” “I love to see the kids faces when they see it, they pick out their favourite ones,” he shared. He reiterated, “It’s all about kids at Christmas.” The display, according to Mr. Langman, is scheduled to remain active until 6 January.
