Swansea City has confirmed that its upcoming home game against Sunderland next Saturday is not in doubt, despite recent storm damage at the Swansea.com Stadium. This assurance comes after a Championship fixture involving Swansea City and Bournemouth was postponed in February 2022 due to similar storm-related issues. The Ospreys, who share the venue with the Swans, had to relocate their Sunday fixture against the Lions to Parc y Scarlets due to damage to the East Stand roof, which was caused by Storm Darragh. However, Swansea City has stated that the necessary repair work will be finalized prior to their Championship encounter with the Black Cats. Jamie Gibbons, the club’s operations manager, confirmed the extent of the damage, stating: “The Swansea.com Stadium has incurred roof damage caused by Storm Darragh. A section of the roof in the East Stand, which overhangs the pitch, has blown away, leaving a hole in the sheeting. Work has already commenced to fix the issues and we don’t expect any issues with future fixtures.” Following Storm Darragh’s impact on Saturday, the Ospreys had previously announced that their European Challenge Cup match against the Lions would be held in Llanelli, where Toby Booth’s team secured a 30-14 victory. Swansea currently holds the 13th position in the Championship standings, having recently played to a 1-1 draw against Luton Town on Saturday amidst challenging weather conditions. The team is scheduled for another away fixture against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday, before returning to their home ground to face fourth-placed Sunderland, who are set to host Bristol City during the midweek.
