A national wildlife photography competition has been won by a 10-year-old boy from Cornwall. Arlo, a resident of Grampound Road, secured first place in the Under-12 mobile category of the current year’s RSPCA Young Photographer Awards. His winning submission featured a photograph of a slow worm on rocks at Polly Joke beach in Newquay. The young photographer commented on the experience, stating: “It was a challenge taking the photo because the slow worm was slinking so quickly towards the beach.” The announcement of the award recipients occurred at a ceremony conducted at the Tower of London on Thursday. Arlo shared his reaction, remarking: “I feel quite privileged. I wasn’t expecting it!” He further explained: “I’m curious about the natural world and if something takes my interest, I’ll take a photo of it.” The judging panel consisted of wildlife photography experts, among them Rachel Bigsby, Ellie Rothnie, Andrew Forsyth, and Emma Jacobs. During the London ceremony, winners from each category received trophies and a variety of prizes.
