A council has issued £1,000 fines as part of a crackdown on fly-tipping, warning the public of its “zero tolerance approach” to the offense. Hull City Council imposed these penalties after incidents occurred in Harlech Close in July, and in West Parade and Grafton Street in October. The authority has encouraged residents to report individuals who fail to dispose of their waste legally and appropriately. Councillor Charles Quinn, the portfolio holder for environment, stated: “Fly-tipping is a crime and we do not tolerate it in Hull. It is unsightly, potentially harmful to human health and damaging to the environment.” The authority reported that the initial £1,000 fine was issued in July after a resident was observed illegally discarding bagged and loose household waste in Harlech Close. A member of the community reported this individual to the council. In October, two additional fines were imposed after fly-tippers were detected by mobile CCTV cameras. One instance involved household waste being abandoned in West Parade, and another concerned a sofa found dumped in Grafton Street. Quinn further commented: “We urge residents to dispose of their waste in the correct way using our accessible services, schemes and household waste centres across the city.”
