Rail journeys scheduled for Sunday, connecting south Wales, Bristol, and London Paddington, are anticipated to experience disruptions as a result of insufficient staffing. Great Western Railway (GWR) verified that a scarcity of train personnel indicated that multiple services would face significant delays, interruptions, or cancellations. The railway operator stated that a reduced number of trains would operate on these lines, and those that do run are expected to be “very busy” and potentially require more travel time than usual. GWR commented: “We know how important remembrance services are to people, and it’s one of the reasons why we are giving advice earlier than we might normally.” Company spokesperson Dan Panes stated: “Part of the issue is that Sunday working, like the rest of the railway industry, is voluntary.” He added: “We rely on people volunteering to work on an overtime basis and that’s not happening this weekend.” Panes continued: “Usually we can find our way around that but we know it’s particularly important for people going to Remembrances, which is one of the reasons why we were trying to talk to people early.” He concluded: “That way we can let people know what some of those challenges might be and so they’re able to make alternative arrangements.” For updates, BBC Berkshire can be followed on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
