Shoppers in a town centre were surprised by a flash mob routine performed by a disability group. Specifically, individuals from Cube Disability gathered in Northampton’s market square to execute a dance routine drawing inspiration from the musical Hairspray. These spontaneous and unexpected public performances, known as flash mobs, typically involve a combination of singing and dancing in public areas. Danielle Dunn, a performer with Cube Disability, stated, “We represent the disabled community and show [their talents]. It doesn’t matter if you have a disability, we’re the same as everyone else.” Established in 2000, Cube Disability maintains operations across six locations within the county, encompassing Northampton, Daventry, and Kettering. After the performance, fellow participant Michael Allen commented, “[The group is] here to brighten everyone’s day when they’re out Christmas shopping and to show that our disability doesn’t define us.” Joel Emary, an experienced performer who previously appeared on Britain’s Got Talent with a dance school, characterized the flash mob event as “absolutely amazing.” Bella Stock, the performing arts director at Cube Disability, further remarked, “It’s a really good performance opportunity for our guys to do something different.” She also noted, “We’ve been rehearsing [the flash mob routine] for around a month or so… it’s a new idea and here we are.” For updates on Northamptonshire news, information is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
