League One club Birmingham City, who last secured the competition title in 1995 under Barry Fry (now director of football at Peterborough United), are scheduled to play Swindon Town away in the last 16 of the Vertu Trophy. The Blues, two-time past winners of the competition, advanced to this stage by defeating Exeter City away in the previous round, securing their fixture at the County Ground. Current holders Peterborough United are set to host Walsall, provided they overcome Northampton Town on Tuesday in what will be the month’s second Nene derby. Elsewhere, Wrexham will travel to face Port Vale. Bolton Wanderers, another club with two competition victories, will journey to Lincoln City as part of the northern section of the draw. All matches are scheduled to take place during the week commencing 13 January. The full draw for the last 16 is as follows: North: Lincoln City v Bolton Wanderers; Chesterfield v Rotherham United; Blackpool or Aston Villa U21 v Bradford City; Port Vale v Wrexham. South: Swindon Town v Birmingham City; Cheltenham Town v Colchester United; Leyton Orient v Stevenage; Peterborough United or Northampton Town v Walsall.
