Lamine Yamal, representing Barcelona and Spain, has been honored with the 2024 Golden Boy award. This recognition comes as the player has been sidelined for a significant portion of the last month due to an ankle injury. Established by the Italian publication Tuttosport, this accolade recognizes the top European male footballer under the age of 21. A panel of journalists determines the winner through a points-based voting system. At 17 years old, Yamal secured a consistent position in Barcelona’s first squad during the previous season, subsequently contributing to Spain’s victory in Euro 2024. During the tournament, the winger netted one goal and provided four assists, earning him the title of young player of the tournament. In October, Yamal also received the Kopa Trophy, a comparable honor presented at the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony. This season, Yamal has accumulated six goals and eight assists across 16 appearances in all competitions. The 2023 Golden Boy award was claimed by Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham.
