Students from 13 schools across East Yorkshire have created 1,000 cards for veterans in advance of Remembrance Sunday. The Postcards for Veterans project, established three years ago, seeks to engage younger generations and ensure the participation of veterans who cannot attend traditional services. Ian Dean of the Royal British Legion gathered the cards from St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College in Hessle on Friday, describing the occasion as an “emotional” yet “fantastic” experience. He mentioned that a selection of the cards would be dispatched to serving personnel globally to convey appreciation for their service. Emma Hardy, the Member of Parliament for Hull West and Haltemprice, stated: “It’s important that those ex-servicemen and women who are unable to attend services feel involved in Remembrance Day and it’s equally as important that younger generations reflect upon and understand what our veterans have gone through.” She further remarked: “The whole project has been an amazing example of the community spirit which runs deeply here.”
