Highland Council has announced a postponement of scheduled repair work for the Infirmary footbridge in Inverness. The local authority had initially planned to commence the £535,000 initiative within the current tax year. However, council officials stated that the project’s start date has been deferred to 2025/26 due to the necessity of redirecting funds to other undertakings, such as renovations for Rose Street Car Park in Inverness. The proposed repairs for the 140-year-old bridge are intended to resolve existing safety concerns. Currently, the bridge requires closure during significant events to prevent excessive weight from being placed upon its structure. According to Highland Council, a more comprehensive refurbishment or a complete replacement of the bridge will ultimately be necessary, but the requisite funding is not presently accessible.
