West Bromwich Albion, under manager Carlos Corberan, last secured a victory at The Hawthorns on September 19. Despite the Baggies’ unusual tendency to frequently draw matches this season rather than secure wins, Corberan has described his squad as a “special group of players.” On Sunday, Albion recorded their tenth draw in their last eleven games at a very cold Hawthorns. In the match against Sheffield United, they initially took the lead, subsequently fell behind 2-1, but then rallied to achieve a 2-2 final score. This result marked their seventh draw in nine unbeaten home matches this season. After holding the top position in the league in mid-September, Albion’s remarkable series of draws contributes to an overall record of only one victory in their last 13 games. This performance has caused them to fall to eighth place in the Championship, now 10 points behind the top spot, which has been reclaimed by the Blades. Following three consecutive goalless draws at home, bringing the season’s total to four at The Hawthorns, the Baggies have recently begun scoring goals, including a 2-2 draw against Norwich City. Nevertheless, looking ahead to this Wednesday night’s home fixture against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City, and particularly considering the quality Albion displayed during the initial half-hour against Sheffield United, head coach Corberan maintains his belief that his players possess the ability to convert these draws into victories by overcoming adversity and avoiding excuses. Corberan stated, “When results are not good it can be difficult to believe in the coach. When they are good, they think you are a genius.” He continued, “This group of players have something which is special. They do not find excuses. Since I came to this club two years ago we have faced difficulties, but this team have never stopped fighting.” Corberan added, “This year, with limitations, we are competing a lot. When things are not working well the easy way is to find an excuse. But, in the difficult moments, we are not making excuses. Some of these players have big personalities to keep growing and use the difficult moments to improve.” Post navigation Cliftonville’s Lyttle attributes Portadown defeat to team’s own performance Plumtree ‘Stoked’ for Housemate Murray’s Wales Debut
