An avid explorer asserts she has become the first individual on record to traverse the entire British coastline on foot. Linzi Bell, a resident of Brightlingsea, Essex, commenced her 298-day undertaking in Greenwich on March 1 and concluded the 7,178-mile (11,552 km) trek on Monday. She accomplished this without utilizing any ferry services, stating that this required her to walk along “many estuaries.” Ms. Bell reported that she successfully raised £13,000 for Mind, a mental health charity, and National Trails, an organization responsible for maintaining pathways across England and Wales. The 46-year-old expressed being profoundly impressed by the generosity of the hundreds of people she encountered during her expedition, many of whom offered her secure overnight accommodation. She remarked: “I have met so many beautiful people who have treated me with nothing but kindness every single day”. Ms. Bell increased her hiking activity following the pandemic lockdowns and had previously walked from France to Spain, but this particular endeavor represented her most significant challenge to date, equating to more than 270 marathons. Ms. Bell mentioned that she permitted herself three “rest days” each month, which involved “being horizontal and eating a lot of lovely food.” She identified the “truly remarkable” West Highlands of Scotland as the highlight of her journey, adding that it is a place where “nature is thriving.”
