Linfield manager David Healy has expressed commendation for forward Matthew Fitzpatrick’s input to his squad. Fitzpatrick, a former Glenavon player, netted two goals during Linfield’s 3-0 victory against Coleraine at Windsor Park on Saturday. This result propelled “the Blues” to an eight-point lead at the summit of the Premiership table. Regarding Fitzpatrick’s attributes, Healy stated: “First and foremost his work ethic, his hunger to keep going and playing.” Healy further commented on the player’s display, saying: “His performance merited his goals today. There have been plenty of performances he’s given us this season where he hasn’t been on the scoresheet.” The manager also highlighted Fitzpatrick’s availability, noting: “There have been times this season when he has basically been the only fit centre forward that we have. He very rarely misses too many games which is an absolute credit to him.” Despite occasional criticism directed at Fitzpatrick concerning his goal count, Healy maintains that the player offers significant value to the team. Healy conveyed his perspective on the player’s understanding of his role, stating: “I’ve no doubt he knows the challenges here and people tally up the games that he’s played and the goals but he knows what I think of him.” He concluded by outlining his expectations: “If he continues doing the job that he’s done for a long time now and he can add one or two goals like he did today then we’ll settle for that.”
