Former Australia defender Ryan McGowan has stated that Thursday’s Europa League fixture against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham presents a “good time” for Rangers to face the side. McGowan, who previously played under the ex-Celtic manager at international level, believes Postecoglou is “feeling the heat a tiny bit” as his team is currently on a four-game winless streak. Tottenham’s recent results include a significant 4-0 victory over Manchester City, followed by draws against Roma and Fulham, and then a defeat to Bournemouth. Most recently, on Sunday, Postecoglou’s squad relinquished a two-goal advantage, resulting in a 4-3 home loss to their London rivals, Chelsea. In contrast, Rangers are experiencing an improvement in performance, having secured wins in their last four matches, notably a decisive 4-1 triumph at Nice in their previous Europa League outing. “Rangers will be looking at Tottenham thinking this is a good opportunity and a good time to play them,” McGowan conveyed during an appearance on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast. He added, “Spurs have not been getting the results they’ve wanted and they will not be looking forward to coming to Ibrox with how well Rangers do in Europe.” McGowan further commented, “That means it could be a cracking game. Rangers are in a good vein of form, they’re feeling confident.” Concluding his remarks, he stated, “But Spurs know if they play to their capabilities then they should be winning the game, so it sets it up perfectly on Thursday night.”
