Official data indicates that Birmingham New Street continues to hold the distinction of being the busiest railway station located outside the capital. The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) reported approximately 33.3 million passenger movements, encompassing both entries and exits, at the station during the period from April 2023 to the close of March 2024. Within the West Midlands region, Coventry ranked as the second most frequented station, recording 6.5 million passenger visits. Birmingham Moor Street and Wolverhampton followed, completing the top four with 6.4 million and 4.8 million entries and exits, respectively. Polesworth, situated in Warwickshire, was identified as the country’s fourth least utilized station, registering a mere 118 passenger entries and exits over a twelve-month period. Nationally, London Liverpool Street maintained its position as Britain’s busiest railway station overall, with an estimated 94.5 million entries and exits. Shropshire accounted for two of the region’s least active stations: Hopton Heath recorded only 1,292 entries and exits, while Broome railway station saw 1,300. Bearley station in Warwickshire registered 1,766 entries and exits, and Bucknell, also located in Shropshire, recorded 3,264.
