Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has stated that Sunday’s away match against Liverpool will present an unprecedented challenge, considering City’s recent form and outcomes. Following a Champions League fixture on Tuesday where Pep Guardiola’s side squandered a 3-0 advantage against Feyenoord, a trip to Anfield might be unwelcome for the manager. However, Gundogan expressed optimism that a positive result could provide them with “the chance for a boost.” Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, the German international remarked, “Anfield is always tough, no matter the situation.” He acknowledged the team’s difficulties in previous visits, adding, “We have struggled in recent years to go there and we know that Liverpool are a great team.” Gundogan further noted Liverpool’s current high confidence, predicting the game “is going to be as tough as possible. But perhaps that sums up this season somehow, in that we are going to have to do it in the toughest way possible.” He expressed hope for a swift recovery from their current situation, particularly highlighting the significance of the Liverpool game: “Hopefully we can get out of this as quickly as possible and especially when this [game against Liverpool] is such a big game, there’s the chance for a boost. We have to perform well first of all, but then we have to try and get something out of the game. That is how we will approach it.” He concluded by emphasizing the need to capitalize on such moments: “We have to use these moments to lift ourselves up and to get up as quickly as possible.” When asked if the game was crucial for maintaining City’s title aspirations, Gundogan responded, “Yes, because 11 points would be a huge gap. But it is still early in the season and there are still a lot of games to play. A lot of things can happen and not just on our side.” He stressed the team’s desire for improvement, stating, “We would like to better ourselves and do the things that we can do better. We have to take it, get our heads down and work hard to prepare for this tough game.” Post navigation Florian Bianchini’s Role Shifts to Striker Following Improved Form, Coach Williams Confirms Statistical Preview: Portsmouth vs. Norwich City
