Thousands of individuals watched online as this year’s Fenwick Christmas window was unveiled. The festive display at the Newcastle city centre department store has been a long-standing tradition for families for generations, dating back to 1971. This year, the theme was revealed as “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” with illustrations provided by Observer political cartoonist and former Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell. Fenwick stated that the display tells the “heart-warming story of Foggy, a determined partridge with a special Christmas wish.” The company also mentioned that the Northumberland Street display would be accompanied by a soundtrack of The Twelve Days of Christmas, performed by the Tyneside folk band The Unthanks. Mr. Riddell expressed that he was “absolutely thrilled” with how his designs had been brought to life. He commented, “My drawings and narrative have been brought to life through brilliant 3D creatives and fantastic moving characters – with the support of traditional mechanical movement.” He added, “[I] hope everyone enjoys the windows as much as I do.” The official unveiling took place on Sunday evening for a small gathering of invited guests. The display will be accessible to the public starting Monday.
