A commemorative rugby match is being held in Hull to honor local individuals who have served in the armed forces. Participants will later take to the field wearing jerseys emblazoned with the names of veterans, including those who served in conflicts dating back to World War One. The annual event has been arranged by the armed forces charity Hull4Heroes. Jim Fishburn, who serves as both its chairman and the founder of the forces rugby team, stated: “Young heroes are not forgotten.” Established in 2013, the East Yorkshire Forces Rugby League team was formed for both active and former service members. Mr. Fishburn emphasized the significance of this annual remembrance event, held at the Myton Warriors ground on Cranbrook Avenue, for the families of veterans. He commented: “It’s really all about remembering them and remembering the name, really, so it doesn’t fall by the wayside.” Jordan Kerman, a veteran participating in the match, highlighted the importance of acknowledging more recent military operations, such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq, in addition to World War One and World War Two. Mr. Kerman remarked: “It’s obviously close to home, because many of the players who are playing on Saturday have served in these conflicts as well.”
