Approximately 200 individuals expressed their perspectives during a gathering prompted by increasing apprehension regarding proposals for numerous residences in Leicestershire. Simon Galton, the planning lead for Harborough District Council, informed a public assembly on Friday that an initial scheme envisioning 10,000 dwellings near Stretton Hall has been superseded by a reduced proposition for as many as 4,000 homes. Conservative Member of Parliament for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, Neil O’Brien, and Conservative Member of Parliament for Stamford and Rutland, Alicia Kearns, convened the meeting subsequent to the government designating the locality in August as an area for “accelerated” development. Speaking at the assembly held at St Luke’s Church, Thurnby, O’Brien stated his comprehension of the pressure faced by the council to finalize an updated Local Plan prior to the government implementing more substantial housing objectives. However, he also expressed apprehension regarding the extent of public awareness concerning the fresh planning document, which encompasses all residential construction throughout the district until 2041. He informed the BBC, “We’re trying to close that information gap and let people know what’s going on and what is being proposed here, because it’s really big.” Phil Knowles, the leader of Harborough District Council, conveyed in a recent declaration: “It’s important to ensure the community have the facts. “We are 100% committed to sharing information as early as possible but we have to caveat that by ensuring we are complying with the necessary rules and regulations.” The subsequent public consultation regarding Harborough’s Local Plan is scheduled for the new year.
