A man from Lincolnshire, who dedicated the past two years to traversing the coastlines of the UK and Channel Islands on foot, has stated that this demanding undertaking provided him with a fresh outlook on life. Chris Jones commenced his journey from Skegness on New Year’s Day 2023, aiming to elevate awareness regarding mental health issues. The initiative has successfully generated just under £75,000 for the Masonic charitable foundation, designated for mental health support. Following the completion of the 6,500-mile (10,460 km) walk, Mr. Jones expressed his pleasure at being back in his home county. Mr. Jones elaborated that while he found the coastal scenery beautiful, it was the interactions with people that truly resonated with him. He said: “I’ve found it’s places where the people have got the least to give you are generally the most generous. It’s been about the people, not about the places.” Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Jones conveyed his desire for individuals to support one another when grappling with mental health challenges, adding that the experience had left him “overwhelmed.” “Everywhere I’ve been, the hand of friendship, the generous donations I’ve been given, the beds I’ve been offered to sleep in. “It’s just all about people. We’re all here for each other, aren’t we?” he said. Mr. Jones remarked that it was wonderful to return to Lincolnshire and is now planning to author a book about his expedition. “Lincolnshire is a fantastic place, isn’t it? We’ve got a lovely bit of coastline and I’m really glad to be back,” he added.
