Salford City has reached the FA Cup third round for the first time in its history. While a match against Manchester United was the preferred outcome, Salford City is content with an FA Cup fixture against Manchester City. The team, known as “The Ammies,” is scheduled to play at the Etihad Stadium in early January, marking their inaugural appearance in this stage of the competition. Captain Curtis Tilt informed BBC Sport, stating, “We wanted United, particularly for the owners of the club, but we’ll take City.” Salford is notably co-owned by a group of former Manchester United players, including Gary Neville, his brother Phil, Nicky Butt, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Ryan Giggs. The club is presently in its sixth season in League Two, where they hold the 15th position under head coach Karl Robinson. Their qualification for the third-round draw was secured by a win against Cheltenham Town. Centre-half Tilt, aged 33, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re absolutely delighted.” He added, “We couldn’t have asked for anything better.” He concluded by stating, “We’ll go there and see if we can cause an upset.” Despite Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team experiencing an unprecedented six losses in their last seven matches across all competitions, they are considered overwhelming favorites to defeat the club from the Peninsula Stadium. This favoritism is largely due to a 78-place difference in their respective league standings. While Salford’s co-owners are widely recognized figures, the opportunity to play against Manchester City’s Premier League stars represents a significant moment for players such as Tilt. He conveyed to BBC Radio Manchester, “I’ve not really drawn a big team in all my career.” He continued, “It’s amazing for me – my family can come and watch and it’s memories I can show kids, grandkids and everyone involved. It’s going to be fantastic for everyone’s families.” Post navigation Celtic vs Rangers: Key Statistics Reports Detail Manchester United’s Managerial Candidates and Transfer Interest
