Two venues dedicated to theatre and live performances are making £3 tickets available to individuals with low incomes who wish to attend their shows. The Octagon and Westlands in Yeovil plan to offer more than 600 reduced-price tickets annually for specific events, aiming to guarantee that all community members have the opportunity to experience live entertainment. Adam Burgan, the manager of the venues, stated, “Our venues are central community hubs, and we are constantly striving to improve access to our programme.” Eligibility for the Accessible Ticket Scheme, developed in partnership with Abri Housing Group, extends to anyone who receives government benefits. Mr. Burgan further commented, “We are proud to be introducing our Accessible Ticket Scheme at a time when rising prices are impacting the communities we serve.” Lisa Hatfield, Abri’s Community Development Officer, remarked, “This initiative is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to experience arts, dance, and creativity, making these shows accessible to all.” Hatfield continued, “Our focus on the health and wellbeing of our customers shines through this initiative, helping to combat loneliness and improve mental health by providing access to such events.” This new scheme works in conjunction with the venue’s established SHiNE Bursary Fund, which assists low-income individuals in participating in creative workshops and classes. The bursary is additionally available to those who receive Free School Meals or Pupil Premium, offering support that is either fully or partially funded, contingent on individual requirements. The establishment’s designation as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) has supported both initiatives. Achieving NPO status grants them access to £760,000 in funding, designated for cultural activities within Somerset through 2026. The scheme is currently active, and the venue reports having already received numerous applications. Post navigation Artwork depicting star-lit petrol station secures art prize Diverse Updates
