Former Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has declared that “definitely brighter times ahead” are anticipated, following the final confirmation last week of the club’s takeover by The Friedkin Group. This acquisition has led Everton fan groups to view the future with “hope and optimism,” succeeding a chaotic nine-year period under British-Iranian businessman Farhad Mosihiri. Speaking to BBC World Service’s Sportsworld, Begovic remarked: “A lot can change in a short space of time in football, and I think the last couple of weeks have been a lot more positive than maybe before.” He continued, “I think the fact that we’ve picked up a couple of really good results and good performances and then you have the news of the new ownership group coming here and the positivity – I think more than anything it hopefully brings stability.” Begovic further noted, “I think there’s always been a level of uncertainty for everyone involved in the club, not just the players, but the staff, the support staff.” He concluded by stating, “Definitely brighter times ahead, hopefully, but I know for myself as a player and being involved with the team it’s all about making sure we try and keep those performances and results going for now.” Adding, “Then, I’m sure everything else will take care of itself.” Sandi Toksvig’s program features Gyles Brandreth, Lulu, Emmanuel Sonubi, and Alan Davies as guests. Audiences are invited to sing along to tracks by Queen, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, and other artists. Ben Fogle and Kate Humble return to Longleat Safari Park for the celebratory events. Topics ranging from microplastics in the atmosphere, ground, and aquatic environments, to the volume of food waste generated during this period of the year, are explored. Copyright 2024 BBC.
