A new mental health facility, intended to offer immediate assistance to individuals upon their arrival, is scheduled to launch next year. Named Hope Haven, this center in Whitehaven, Cumbria, will consolidate various services. This initiative aligns with NHS England’s broader objective to enhance mental health provisions within local communities. The facility is slated to commence operations in April at the former Halifax branch situated on King Street in the town centre. David Storm, representing the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW), stated that Hope Haven represents a “radically new way of supporting people’s mental health and wellbeing”. Mr. Storm explained that individuals presently often have to visit “lots of different places” to access necessary support, a situation that can extend waiting periods and complicate the resolution of their issues. He further elaborated, “But with the Hope Haven, we want to change that. People won’t need to be referred and discharged between different teams. They will be able to get the help they need much earlier, just by walking through the door, or contacting us by phone or online.” The hub will employ NHS personnel in conjunction with specialists capable of assisting patients with concerns including housing, debt, and employment. Prior to the hub’s official opening, drop-in sessions will be offered to residents of Whitehaven and Copeland, commencing in January. While the Whitehaven Community Trust will own the building, its acquisition and renovation were financed through funding provided by NHS England. The name Hope Haven was selected for the centre after a public vote.
