Paddy Tally, the newly appointed senior football manager for Derry, has brought Cairbre O Caireallain, an All-Ireland winning strength and conditioning coach, into his support staff. O Caireallain previously contributed to Limerick’s two All-Ireland title victories during his tenure with the Treaty County. O Caireallain arrives at the Oak Leafers with a notable professional background, having assisted both Tipperary and Limerick in securing All-Ireland hurling championships. A native of Belfast and a former Antrim underage hurler, O Caireallain also spent time at Arsenal Football Club. There, he was involved with the youth academy and played a role in the women’s team’s FA Cup triumph in 2016, a squad that featured Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe. Upon his return to Ireland, O Caireallain became part of the Tipperary hurlers’ setup, contributing to their 2019 All-Ireland title victory under manager Liam Sheedy. Subsequently, he joined Limerick in 2022, where the team went on to claim two additional Liam MacCarthy Cups in 2022 and 2023. Cairbre O Caireallain is the sibling of Naoise O Caireallain, recognized more widely as Moglai Bap from the rap ensemble Kneecap. Derry concluded its four-month search for a successor to Mickey Harte earlier this month with the official appointment of Tally. Beyond O Caireallain, Tally’s support staff comprises former Derry captain Kevin McGuckin, Paul McFlynn, and Paul McIver.
