A new facility, described as “vital,” has commenced operations in a coastal town, providing support for young individuals transitioning out of the care system. Sefton Council is extending assistance to young people through its recently established Care Experienced Hub located in Crosby. According to the council, this hub is intended to be both an enjoyable environment and a resource for comprehensive support, encompassing areas such as housing, financial management, mental well-being, and employment. Councillor Diane Roscoe stated the objective was for young people to understand that their communities have faith in them. She elaborated, “Care-experienced people face increased challenges and even discrimination across education, employment, housing and are more likely to struggle with mental health issues and that’s why this hub is so vital.” Roscoe indicated that the hub would deliver “a range of support, all in one place, tailored to them, in a space they feel comfortable, safe and supported.” She further commented, “We want children and young people to have high aspirations and know that people believe in them to achieve their dreams.” The council reports that the hub will provide individuals with the opportunity to consult with specialized teams possessing extensive understanding of care-experienced individuals and the assistance they are eligible for. Additionally, the facility will feature social gatherings and various services, such as a food pantry and a dedicated work area where individuals can schedule appointments for assistance with housing, financial matters, job coaching, and other needs. The inauguration of Sefton’s Care Experienced Hub follows an announcement by Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram regarding complimentary travel throughout Merseyside for individuals leaving care.
