Authorities have apprehended two individuals in connection with the theft of tools valued at £2,000 from a commercial vehicle. According to Wiltshire Police, the owner reported that the items were removed from his vehicle around 11:45 GMT on Friday, while it was stationary on Washbourne Road in Royal Wootton Bassett. Law enforcement officers subsequently apprehended two individuals who were inside a black Mazda 3; one of them attempted to escape on foot but was quickly taken into custody. The suspects, aged 27 and 61, face charges of suspected theft from a motor vehicle. Additionally, the 27-year-old individual was also arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence and without insurance coverage. Roads Policing Officer Ben Greening stated, “Such thefts can have a huge financial impact on those affected.” He further elaborated, “The theft of tools has a direct impact on the ability of professional tradespeople to earn a living, aside from the potential cost of replacing these tools.” Police reported that the van’s owner provided a description of the vehicle and its occupants observed departing the location. Within twenty-five minutes, officers successfully located the vehicle. A police spokesperson confirmed that a “significant” quantity of tools, believed to be stolen, were found inside the vehicle. PO Greening also commented, “We are determined to respond robustly to any such reports, and have recently put additional resources in place to enable us to rapidly respond to any reports.” He urged anyone who was in the vicinity during the reported incident or possesses doorbell or dashcam footage to contact 101.
